First Steps:
- Using a putty knife, carefully and thoroughly scrape away any coating that is soft enough to remove. Do not be concerned with the thin, sticky residue that may remain; the new layer of coating will fix the residue
- Fill the low, scraped out areas with the coating and allow to cure for about eight hours or more
- Then apply another flood coat layer of coating to conceal the repairs and create a new countertop layer
How to properly mix the coating:
- Measure equal parts and pour together into a bucket
- Mix bucket contents for two minutes; time with the watch. Use a wooden paint stick to mix the coating
- Scrape all of the mixed coating into a second mixing bucket and mix for another four minutes. Discard the mix stick at this time
- Pour the coating onto the project
- Spread the coating with a foam brush or stiff card
- After a few minutes, use a propane torch to remove bubbles
Sticky or gooey surfaces are the result of either unequal parts or incomplete mixing. It is critical to remove all gooey material as it will work through any subsequent layers if not removed effectively.
